Jefferson Memorial, Washinton DC
This memorial honours Thomas Jefferson, principal architect of United States' Declaration of Independence. It features multiple quotes from Jefferson intended to capture his ideology and philosophy. Jefferson was staunchly supportive of American republicanism, individual rights, religious freedom, states' rights, and virtue. He was deeply sceptical of cities and financiers and hostile to aristocracy, elitism, and corruption. He is widely considered among the most influential political minds of his age and one of the most consequential intellectual forces behind the American Revolution. The building is simple, with one purpose, to house the bronze statue of Jefferson. It is a gleaming white neo-classical landmark on the shores of the Potomac River.
