Mozartstrasse, Salzberg

In the street where Mozart was born there are ornate metal signs that still adorn most shop fronts, maintaining a centuries old tradition and creating a busy image contrasted by the wall of vines at the end of the street.

Burr Island, Connecticut in winter

Isolated living in the Thimble Islands near Stony Creek in Connecticut, USA.  The bay can get so cold that ice forms on Long Island Sound that surrounds it.  You hope that there is at least some good fishing there if you are living in such isolation.

Angel figurine on church pew - Oxford, UK

Ornate carving and an angel playing music show a dedication to art in the construction of cathedrals.  This one in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford is just one small detail amongst all of the effort and dedication that has been poured into the building of this church.

View from the Peak in Hong Kong at night

Frequent visitors to Hong Kong may recognise the absence of a number of contemporary skyscrapers that seem to blossom regularly out of the land in this densely populated business mecca.  This photo was taken some years ago and benefits from the clearer air caused by preceding rain storms.  Most of the nearest buildings are residential, evidence of Hong Kong's place as one of the most densely populated places on earth.

Landscape Arch, Arches National Park, Utah

Landscape Arch at the northern end of Arches National Park is the longest arch in North America, and the fifth longest natural arch in the world, after four arches in China.  It spans an incredible 93.3 meters and is just 1.8 metres wide at its narrowest point and its impossibly frail appearance inspires awe in any who see it up close.  Parts of the arch fell down in three separate incidents in the 1990s, demonstrating that it's an ongoing process that forms these geological miracles.
